Cremated into a Diamond, Shaq's Chicken Restaurant in Glendale, Being German and Black - Wednesday, November 20, 2019 1:33 PM

Hey hey hey it’s Wednesday. Not gonna put a lot of time into this one this week BUT it’s full of cool things. YEAH. I had lunch with Maiyah yesterday at Oracle, but she cut it short. She said we’ll never have another lunch again, so I don’t know if this thread is going to keep going… jk, I’ll continue it forever till I’m cremated into a diamond.

· Being German and Black – Here is a 42min documentary by DW, a public broadcasting service in Germany. Black people have lived in Germany for over 400 years, yet even to this day, they receive racist remarks from people such as “where are you from?” and Black Germans have to always say “I was born here”. The fact is that white Germans don’t mean to be racist, but still aren’t aware of the idea that Germany is a multi-ethnic society in the 21st century. The concept of being white and German is a steady stereotype throughout the world and black people make up less than 1% of Germany’s population (source). Germany tries not to see “race” as much (well, compared to the US, they’re practically colorblind); unlike the US or UK, they don’t collect statistics on the racial makeup of their populations. So that 1% statistic is literally just eye-balling it. Watched the whole thing, very interesting.
