Bladerunner's "Nov. 2019", the Future Office Worker, Robinhood's Glitch, Civil Blockchain - Wednesday, November 13, 2019 5:02 PM
Welcome back to Wednesday ya chumps. Feels good for this nice November weather, needled up and such. Got a Shetland Sheep to shave it’s whiskers for a sweater – it’s scratchy. I’ve been listening to Death Grips a lot lately, so cryptic lyrics overlaid with industrial hip hop has been my sh*t for some time. If any of you have stuff you want me to checkout or that you find interesting , email to my secure Swiss email: donrutledge@protonmail.com. Anything I send out of that email will self-destruct in 16 days, so be wary of that. This email acts like my Shoot the Sh*t cool stuff depository.
3 THINGS that are COOL.
1. What month and year and city was Bladerunner set in? … Yes. You thought right J https://youtu.be/-fu7jN2_2pE?t=176
2. This is what the future office worker will look like: hunched over, bad back, rashes breaking out, and eyes dried from office lights. This is the article that scared me into a standing desk (jk I don’t have one): https://futurism.com/neoscope/office-work-disfigure-human-body
3. Cheat Code It was a relatively quiet piece of news out in the world, but on Wall Street blogs everywhere and especially reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets, around the end of October and beginning of November, a certain glitch captured internet day traders around the Western World. On the app Robinhood, this happened: “So how is this even possible? Users of the platform’s premium tier, in what’s been described as an “infinite cheat code,” were allowed to sell covered call options with money borrowed from Robinhood. The problem is that the app incorrectly adds the value of the options to the user’s original cash on hand, allowing them to borrow larger and larger amounts, with apparently no limit”. A few high profile cases involve a guy having 3k deposited and inflating leverage to an wicked amount, in the end, through trading, having his position be $1.7 million… yeah, real numbers. In the end, Robinhood fixed the glitch, making high-rolling Redditors lose 50k in leverage 3 seconds: https://youtu.be/A-tNkuYV4_Q?t=30 But for everybody else that made dividends off this “cheat code”… well, let’s say Robinhood is sweeping it under the rug lmao.
4. A Costa Rican local newspaper in the province of Guanacaste is undergoing massive investigation regarding the highest domestic violence rate in the country. Their spiel: “During this month of November, our team is commemorating International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and we need your help. The province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica, where we cover the news, has one of the highest rate of domestic violence of the country. But that is not the only type of violence they live: obstetric, political and online violence are also part of their daily life. We want to go one step further and report them, tell how to identify them and how to break the patterns of violence.” Here’s the kicker… CIVIL is a blockchain company that was trying to decentralize worldwide journalism through their coin, Civilcoin, a coin for journalism. This coin was going to be sold as an Initial Coin Offering, but it went bust and thus CIVIL went kablooey. Now it’s just a Kickstarter for journalism projects: https://registry.civil.co/boosts/09aeddac-4a69-466b-aa62-fe9194c0d73b
